[FREE ANDROID APP] Microsoft Translator - Translate Text, Voice, Image to language of your choice - Alternative to Google Translate

Today FREE Android App of the day is Microsoft Translator.

What is this app about?
Like it's name: Microsoft Translator, it's a translator app - translating from one language to other language, newly built by Microsoft.

For more FREE APPS or FREE GAMES, visit:
http://android711.blogspot.com/

Features
Once the app is started, you'll see 4 icons: they are (clockwise) Mic, Conversation, Photo and Keyboard icons.

Mic icon: Tap on this icon for the app start listening to your voice. Choose both from and to language, then speak to the app and the app will start translating. Unfortunately, the app won't read you the translation.

Conversation icon: Tap on this icon to start conversation between 2 languages. For example between English and Simplified Chinese: Tap on the mic icon to start speaking, once done, the app will automatically translated to the other language and vice versa.

The drawback of this feature is the languages the app can listen and translate are still limited. Not all languages is supported yet. And compared to Google Translate app, this app requires you to press the mic correctly when you want to speak to be translated. And the translation result, you need to read it by yourself as the app won't speak it for you.

Photo icon: Tap on this icon if you want to snap a photo (or get from existing photo), to be translated.

Good thing is that, the app will auto detect the language on the photo and translate it to the language of your choice. On my test, the result is good, it can translate 90% of the text correctly.

Keyboard icon: Tap on this icon if you want to key in the text and have it translated. Like the 'Photo' feature, this 'Keyboard' feature also can detect the language you are typing in and translate it to the language of your choice.

The Verdict
Microsoft Translator when compared to its direct and long standing competitor: Google Translator, is still far from perfect as Microsoft still needs to keep adding support to more languages (written and spoken), supports auto detect languages and needs to catch up with the translation speed as I noticed, Microsoft Translator still needs 1-2 seconds more to translate compare to Google Translate.
But from the UI side, I can say Microsoft Translator UI is better compared to Google Translate.
Another drawback for Microsoft Translator is that the app only supports Android 4.3 and up while Google Translator can be installed on any version of Android.

>> Current Version 1.3.0.58
>> Price Totally FREE

Today FREE APP is iTranslate.

For more FREE APPS or FREE GAMES, visit:
http://android711.blogspot.com/

iTranslate, just like its app name suggested, is for translating one language to another language.
According to the app store description, the app supports translating over 90+ language.
It can translate not only words but also phrases and sentences.

Compared to other language translation app such as Google Translate, this app uniqueness is in the voice output where you can configure to be a male/female voice, slower or faster when saying the words/sentences, even you can configure the dialect if the language support it.

So if you want to know how a British female voice and accent compare to American female voice and accent when saying something, or if you would like to know how "good morning" is spoken in Spain Spanish, compared to American Spanish and Mexican Spanish, you can check it using this app.

However, unlike its competitor, Google Translate which is totally free, iTranslate has premium option where in order to input your voice to be translated, you have to unlock it using the in-app purchase as part of the premium program.

This app offers in-app purchase to unlock premium mode and remove ads.
This app needs internet access to translate to multiple languages.

Current version 3.1.1 requires Android 4.1 (JellyBean) and up.

[FREE APP] [Android] Google Translate Amazing New Features: Direct Voice Translation, Word Lens, Photo Translation

Today FREE APP is Google Translate.

As you already knew before, Google Translate is an app that help you to translate between 2 languages.

Now, after Google previously purchased the company that make the Word Lens app, Google is now coming with the update for its Google Translate app.

For more FREE APPS or FREE GAMES, visit:
http://android711.blogspot.com/

The update brings these amazing new features:
1. Instant translation with Camera
2. Photo Translation
3. Direct Voice Translation

The first new feature is for sure coming from Word Lens app and is currently only can translate from and to these languages:
1. English <-> French
2. English <-> German
3. English <-> Italian
4. English <-> Portugese
5. English <-> Russian
6. English <-> Spanish
These instant translation, previously on Word Lens app was available as in-app purchases, now after bought and integrated by Google into Google Translate, this feature is available for FREE. Amazing Google!

The second new feature is photo translation. For now it supports 36 languages and will supports more in the future. To use this feature, you need to click on the camera icon for the app to start taking photo. Once the photo is taken, it will recognize the text and start translating.
Unfortunately, to use this feature, you need to choose the two languages first. From which language to which language, which means that photo translation is only support translating one language at a time and you need to know first which language is that you want Google to translate it for you.
Perhaps this feature can be improved in the future to auto-detect the language from the photo.

The third new feature is the most amazing one. Direct Voice Translation. Same as the second new feature, to use this feature, you need to preselect both languages before translation begin. Without choosing the languages, this feature can't be used.
Once you select the languages, from and to, all you need to do is press the mic button. If let say you are translating from Chinese to English, there will be 3 buttons in the UI. Speak Chinese button, Speak English button and Mic button.
If you are not sure who is going to talk first, push the Mic button, the app will then detect whether the spoken language is Chinese or English.
Once you finished one statement, the app will then translate to you in an instant (depending on your network connection- of course).
This feature is really useful when you are traveling to countries in which you don't really understand the language and you need to ask for direction.
This feature is also really useful if you have new business partner that don't really speak your language.
What about you? How do you think this new features from Google can help you?

Current version varies between devices, however the app requires Android 2.1 (Eclair) and up.
